#HumlyHumans - Chief Technology Officer
Oskar - CTO, Humly
1. How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
Curious, thinker, responsible, nerd, tall
2. How long have you worked for Humly?
Joined September 2022
3. Can you describe what you do day-to-day?
I am responsible for our brilliant team of engineers and creating a great environment for them to thrive in. I make sure our technology and platform is aligned with Humly's strategies, vision and mission.
My days are very varied, with everything from research and planning, recruitment, team meetings and the occasional prototyping.
4. What’s the most challenging part of your job, and how do you usually challenge it?
Making sure we stay focused on the long term goals, and not get lost in the weeds. The effect of decisions and efforts today usually don’t see fruition until months or sometimes even years in the future.
Making sure we celebrate our wins is a good way to remind ourselves of our progress.
5. From your experiences as the CTO at Humly, what do you believe are some of the most essential skills or attributes needed to thrive in this role
You need a solid foundation in the craft of software engineering. On top of that, being able to clearly communicate and “translate” across disciplines and teams is essential. Then being able to boil down the company goals to actions that gets us closer to achieving them, and supporting and trusting the great engineering team to deliver is a recipe for success.
6. What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of?
At Humly, we’ve evolved the product development team and way of working that sets us up for success on the growth journey we are on. We are able to stay focused and significantly move the needle in a sustainable way.
7. What do you do outside of work to unwind?
Cooking is my therapy. A lot of Asian food. But I also play games, solo on the computer or at the table top with friends. Currently my obsession is Magic The Gathering, reliving my youth.
8. Where is your favourite travel destination?
It's not so much the destination, but who you travel with or to. That said, I like contrast, so a bit outside Europe is nice.
9. Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I can sort of speak Mandarin Chinese.
