About Humly

Humly is a digital marketplace for teachers to match exciting job opportunities within schools and nurseries. Humly’s teachers have delivered more than two hundred thousand teaching days to date. But we haven’t finished yet. We are continuously improving and developing our marketplace and expanding our offer into new international markets.

Humly has 60 employees working at our offices in Gothenburg in Sweden and Fareham, Milton Keynes, Manchester and Birmingham in the UK. We have over 3,000 registered teachers and agreements with over 4,000 schools in Sweden and the UK.

Humly has financially strong and active owners, Viking Ventures, and have raised 10 MEUR. We see great potential for the company and have a high ambition.

The Humly platform consists of multiple web clients written in React.js and mobile apps for iOS and Android written in React Native that connect to Ruby on Rails API. Data is permanently stored in the MongoDB database and temporarily cached in Redis.

The infrastructure is run on Amazon Web Services with Infrastructure As Code approach (Terraform).

About the role

Our user base and business is growing quickly. Our marketplace is becoming more and more demanding to maintain and develop. With the extensive need for our platform and exciting opportunities, we need a well-working development team and technical infrastructure to help us scale our platform and reach our goals and ambitions.
We are looking for someone in our management team who owns the platform's technical aspects and builds a development organization that can further maintain, scale and develop the marketplace.

As a CTO, you will own the budget and investment plan for the engineering team. You will work closely with the company CPO to develop a scalable and loved digital marketplace. It is your responsibility to align the technical strategy with the company strategy. We expect you to be a proactive and solution-oriented member of the management team.

We will need an excellent team to help us, so you must enjoy building and forming a development team. Being a good leader who aligns with our values is more important than having the perfect technical skillset.

Humly is right now having a development team of seven people in Poland. They are not employed by Humly but work full-time for Humly. We have cooperated with them since 2017, and it works very well. The product management team consists of a CPO, a UX designer, two UI designers and a data scientist located at the Humly headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. With the great potential ahead of us, the next step in our company development is to build an internal engineering team. We are looking for a CTO to take full responsibility for building and developing a team of high performers that are fun to work with.

The current development organization works data-driven and agile. We don’t follow any exact agile process model but have designed our own with similar principles. You must prefer being outcome-driven, running small sprints and deploying often.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years CTO experience.

• Speaking Swedish is a plus but not required. The team communicates in English.

• Experience from scaling a multi-national platform.

• Well documented experience as a leader.

• Experience in team management and cross-functional team coordination.

Location

Humly is a hybrid organisation with a team spread over many locations in Sweden, England and Poland. We harness the power of remote work and have a structure to build a solid collaborative culture without meeting every day. For this role, it will be preferable if the candidate is situated in Sweden or the UK where we currently have team members. You don't have to be living in a city where we have offices.
